The View From Here
The View From Here
.
Why do we marvel at great vistas;
Looking out upon the world so small?
Does it make us feel connected;
A minor cog in it all?
Does it make us feel powerful;
Gazing down and seeing far?
Are the mountains and valleys beyond
Different from a sparkling field of stars?
.
Vistas offer hints of hope
Of time beyond the present;
And of potential for progress
To a place more content,
Where troubles haven’t reached
And worries don’t persist.
A place you can see
But does not exist.
.
Is an expansive field of view more beautiful
Than what the minute details can be?
Rods cones DNA,electric pulses in the brain,
Water flowing over rock, wind and gravity,
Heat and pressure on the smallest scale
Spewing volcanoes and trembling earthquakes,
Added together and patiently
do great vistas make.
